Chloe Borkett – East of Nowhere

Chloe Borkett is a documentary photographer and recent graduate from The University of Wales, Newport. She recently got in touch to share her latest project, ‘East of Nowhere’….
“East of nowhere is an intimate account of growing up in the frozen conflict zone of Trans-Dniester, the disputed sovereignty of Moldova, which remains, unrecognised by the UN. Governed defacto since the dying days of the Soviet Union, so-called independence was seen as a triumph to secure a better future, but the self-elected PMR has only made time stand still. Citing the decayed splendour of the Soviet Unions’ utopian dream artificiality hangs in the air. Interior spaces echo psychological states and social concerns, whilst places of the everyday, become the stage of a suspended time. People are captured looking afar, but the cameras gaze doesn’t intend to be voyeuristic, but rather assist the spectator to become projected in their elsewhere.”
Look out for Chloe’s work in a later issue of OGA magazine, And keep your submissions coming in.
