Craig Bernard

August 21, 2012

Craig Bernard is a photographer who recently contacted us to share his photographs from the Notting Hill carnival. Taking place this bank holiday weekend, Notting Hill is the largest street festival in Europe and a celebration of Afro-Caribbean culture and tradition.
When talking about his approach to photographing the event, Craig told us-

I started to make these pictures in Notting Hill Carnival seven years ago. For the first 2 years I shot B+W, the third year I changed to colour and gave myself a one word theme for that particular year- portraits, dancers, etc giving myself this short brief turned the two day event into a whirlwind as I wanted to fulfil what I set out to do. Almost all the pictures are people oriented and because of how frantic the carnival is everything is one shot only.”
