Bernardo Santos

September 21, 2012

Bernardo Santos is 23 years old and is also based in Lisbon, Portugal.  He recently contacted OGA to share his work.  When describing his approach he told us:

“I dont know what I want to do with photography, I do know what dont want, I’m tired of photography being seen as a register of real.  Photography isn’t just about the moment, it’s far more than that just as an artistic platform as painting is.  In a compositional and chromatic sense, I tend to be pictoric in a way similar to painting.  I think there is one key element for the way I work that is literature, because in order to get a visual representation of something that is not real in the physical world it’s easier to begin with philosophical or intellectual concepts that make sense when applied to something. Even though the idea seems kind of complex it is nonetheless very organic concerning the way the work begins and is being constructed until its final stage.
