Anthony Gerace

Anthony Gerace recently moved to London after spending the last ten years living in Toronto,
He studied graphic design and now focusses his time between photography, and collage…
Anthony recently contacted us to share some of his portrait work, when talking about the images he told us-
“I didn’t start off with any intention of becoming a portrait photographer, it’s just kind of something that happened—all of my photography before this year had been very Stephen Shore influenced and very much about me being alone in an environment, and I think that approach contributes a bit to the tone of the images as they are now. Weirdly though, I also think that committing myself so firmly to portraiture has changed how I view photographing objects—every picture becomes a portrait, a trace of the person in one form or another.”
We have chosen a selection from all of Anthony’s photography, so make sure to keep reading for more images and to find out more about Anthony’s approach to photographing his models…..

“My approach has really became about the relationship between myself and the model, and my methodology reflects that: I like shooting at least a few rolls of 120 film with whoever I’m photographing, and lately, since I’ve been doing so much outdoor stuff, taking a walk through their neighbourhood. I think photographing people in that way, which is more loose and fun, leads to a more accurate depiction of the person, and allows them to reveal a side of themselves that they might not have normally.”
